Cane toad spottings in WA
Friday, 17/1/2003

http://www.abc.net.au/rural/news/stories/s765027.htm

Authorities in Western Australia are investigating reported sightings of cane toads on a station in the state's Kimberley region.

Cane toads are a poisonous species, introduced to Queensland in the 1930's but have since spread to the Northern Territory.

The Department of Conservation and Land Management says there's been several sightings of cane toads in the Kimberley over the past few years, but they've been efficient in eradicating them.

The Department's regional Manager Chris Done says they are unsure as to how the cane toads arrived in WA, but says it's a serious matter and they'll continue to monitor the area.

This is a transcript from the ABC National Rural News that is broadcast daily to all states on ABC Regional Radio's Country Hour and in the city on ABC News Radio.
