Foundation welcomes Aust Govt funding injection
to
Kimberley Toadbusters and seeks improved liaison
between on-ground operatives in cane toad battle
The Chair of the Stop The Toad Foundation has written to congratulate
the board of the Kimberley Toadbusters for successfully securing
a total of more than $300,000 funding from the Australian Government
for their on-ground works.
“We also congratulate the Federal Government and hope that
this is the beginning of long term support by the Commonwealth of
on-ground efforts and commitment to stop the toad invading WA”
said Robert Edel, Chair of the Foundation.
“The cost of support for the anti-toad effort is small compared
to the costs which would be incurred if cane toads establish in
the Kimberley and other parts of WA”, he said.
The WA Government’s Dept. of Environment and Conservation
(DEC), Kimberly Toadbusters (KTB) and the Stop The Toad Foundation
(STTF) are all now active in the field and pursing strategies to
hold back the tide of toads coming WA’s way.
“There is now a real need for coordination of all these efforts
to ensure an integrated approach. There should be no duplication
of activities and we must ensure that the groups can capitalise
on any synergies which may be gained by cooperative works”,
said Robert.
Writing today to the Kimberley Toadbusters and the DEC, STTF has
encouraged the urgent establishment of a working group to consider
these issues.
