CANE TOADS CAN BE STOPPED
Data gathered through previous Stop the Toad Foundation (STTF)
musters has proven that the advance of cane toads into WA can be
stopped with community led on-ground action.
Robert Edel, Chairman STTF, expressed his delight at the appointment
of Kim Hands as the new Strategic Campaign Manager, who will lead
the 2008 Great Toad Muster.
“Kim comes to STTF with a wealth of experience that makes
her ideally suited to the challenge of guiding volunteer effort
to keep toads out of WA,” said Mr Edel.
STTF has developed innovative new techniques to make on-ground
toad control more effective.
Strategic Campaign Manager Ms Hands said, “Contrary to recent
negative reports it’s definitely possible to stop cane toads
getting into WA.”
“The STTF will be running its 3rd Great Toad Muster from
20 September to 18 October 2008, operating on the NT side of the
WA – NT border, to hold the frontline.
“This dry season is expected to be drier than normal, and
without water the toads cannot last more than five days, so this
a great opportunity to hit the toads hard.
“With our improved control techniques, natural conditions
in our favour and generous support of our numerous sponsors and
volunteers we are confident of another very successful muster.”
