STTF – 2nd Perth Cane Toad Forum

At 7.20am Sat June 17 2006 Perth recorded its coldest temperature ever – minus 0.7 degrees.

Two hours later, in a slowly warming sunshine, the intrepid began to gather at Alexander Library for the 2nd Perth Cane Toad Forum.

The crowd was welcomed by Tim Winton.

The event was officially opened by the WA Minister for the Environment, the Hon. Mark McGowan.

Presentations then led off with Jen Francis from the Kununurra toad team speaking on CALM activity.

She was followed by Sandy Boulter reflecting on Kimberley Toadbuster's activity from their first toadbust in Sept 2005 to present.

Regional Coordinator Graeme Sawyer spoke on behalf of the STTF, outlining their dry season strategy.

Alex Hyde from CSIRO provided an overview of the search for biological controls.

A few short announcements were made and then Tim Winton presented Greg Hunt a GOLDEN TOAD AWARD. Greg has been the volunteer coordinator of the STTF school trap-building program since he turned up at the first Cane Toad Forum in June 2005.
